U.S. Sept. ISM services index at lowest level since March

Nonmanufacturing sectors of the U.S. economy expanded in September at the slowest pace since March, the Institute for Supply Management reported Wednesday. The ISM nonmanufacturing index fell to 54.8% in September from 55.8% in August. The drop was lower than expected. Economists were looking the index to decline to 55.3%. The headline index is not a weighted average of the survey’s other key components. The closely-watched employment index rose to 52.7% from 47.9%. New orders rose to 53.4% from 57.0%. Inflation pressures increased. The price index rose to 66.1% from 58.6%in the previous month.
